Texas Star Demo for Bonnie

I had a request to make a large wooden 3D decorative Texas Star to be hung on a patio in Idaho! Should begin cutting this and hopefully get it finished tomorrow! I'll add new pics to the main blog page and this project link as it goes! Challenging but fun! Guessing it will be a little over 2 feet point to point.

Should be this design but requestor chose personal colors!

Update for the Star!
Took awhile to work out all the angles for the 3d effect. Looking good though. Waiting for the glue to dry before I sand it down and finish the assembly.

So funny thing about making stars... What you see on paper is not what you get in reality. Hmmmm... sounds like that applies to more than stars....

I actually put together the star pieces shown above and it looked terrible LOL. Nothing matched up.  Apparently those who do know how to make these things are not sharing either. I scoured the internet last night for many hours trying to find someone with a tutorial or who had posted the angles to cut. Nothing.... Well, actually I did find one who had posted some angles and shown pictures. I tried his yesterday and got what I dubbed to be the Texas Shooting Star! It still looked nothing like I planned. SO - After several hours working Google Sketchup I finally came up with a 3D star that looked to be correct. I spent 5 hours today building sleds for the table saw to get all the angles right and came up with the star you see below. This one I can live with. I made 2... 1 for Bonnie and 1 for us to post pictures of and keep for our own. Maybe I'll post pictures of the "Shooting star" later for laughs. A little sanding and some paint and this one will look great!

1/6/12 - Star is done!
